Campbell Mrs Arch obituary 1876
The Canadian Baptist, May 11, 1876, page 3. CAMPBELL.
– In the township of Osgoode, February 22nd, in the 73rd year of her age, Mrs. Arch. Campbell.
Our deceased sister was born in Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland, and emigrated to Canada with her husband in the year 1833. She came to the knowledge of the truth before she left the old country, under the preaching of Mr. McDonald of Ferintosh, and united with the Presbyterian Church.
Some time after her removal to Osgoode, Canada, she began to entertain doubts as to the validity of her baptism, and after a careful study of the word of God became fully satisfied that the immersion of believers was what the New Testament enjoined. She was baptized by Mr. McPhail, and received into the fellowship of the Osgoode Baptist church; in which church she continued a consistent member until the day of her death.
She was naturally endowed with a good mind, was a diligent reader of the Bible and other good books, and was well able to talk intelligently of the truth as it is in Christ Jesus.
She had a clear apprehension of the plan of salvation, and took much delight in talking of the Divine grace and compassion which are therein manifested towards men. Her confidence in Christ as her Saviour was firm and unclouded; she possessed the witness within herself that she had passed from death unto life; while her conversation and general deportment made manifest to others that she lived in the fear of the Lord. During the last two years of her life on earth, her mind and body were much enfeebled, by repeated strokes of paralysis; and for several weeks before her decease she was quite helpless. She passed quietly away, without a struggle, and we believe that she now enjoys the rest prepared for the people of God. Her remains were conveyed to the Osgoode burying ground, followed by a large number of sympathizing friends and neighbours. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." J. P. McEwen
